Licenced groundwater users across southern Victoria can now buy and sell permanent or temporary entitlement at our new online groundwater traderoom.
The groundwater traderoom provides an easier way for buyers and sellers to connect and transparently and securely trade to free up available water for productive use.
The new trade platform will provide public access to historic trade price data to help , users make more informed decisions about groundwater market rates when trading water.
The online traderoom was first launched in December for those in south west Victoria, who were particularly hard hit by the season’s dry conditions, and is now available to those customers in other regions - from western Victoria through to eastern Gippsland.
Southern Rural Water says groundwater levels are relatively healthy across southern Victoria. For example, in some areas, annual metered use is typically between 30 to 45 percent of entitlement and this means there are opportunities for licence holders to trade.
Customers with groundwater licences must register on the Southern Rural Water Exchange.
